Inanc Eray along with Evren Basbug, Meric Kara and Engin Ayaz has been shortlisted as one of the five finalists of YAP Istanbul Modern Program for 2013. Here is the announcement release from the gallery;
The finalists of theYAP Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program, initiated by Istanbul Modern in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and MoMA PS1, under the co-sponsorship ofPolimeks and VitrA have been announced. To be held biannually during the summer, the YAP Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program offers young emerging architects the opportunity to design temporary exterior installations through an innovative approach to architectural design.
The jury consists of Barry Bergdoll (MoMA), Cevdet Erek, Çelenk Bafra (Istanbul Modern), Emre Arolat, Han Tümertekin, Levent Çalıkoğlu (Istanbul Modern), Melkan Tabanlıoğlu, Oya Eczacıbaşı (Istanbul Modern), Pedro Gadanho (MoMA), Pelin Derviş (YAP Istanbul Modern Coordinator) and Suha Özkan (President of the Jury). The jury convened on November 26, 2012 and selected the five finalists from among the young candidates put forth by nominators from across Turkey and the TRNC. Finalists are the design group of Evren Başbuğ, İnanç Eray, Meriç Kara, Engin Ayaz; Sevince Bayrak and Oral Göktaş (SO? Architecture and Ideas); Ömer Selçuk Baz (Yalın Mimarlık); Alper Derinboğaz (Salon2); Onat Öktem and Zeynep Öktem (ONZ Architects).
Opening in 2013, the Yap Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program will be an expansion of the Young Architects Program International carried out at MoMA PS1 in New York, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts (MAXXI) in Rome, and the cultural organization CONSTRUCTO in Santiago.
The Young Architects Program International offers young designers and architects the opportunity to design spaces that promote uses such as rest, play, and relaxation as well as host diverse events such as shows, music, dance, exhibitions, and performances. Architects are encouraged to address environmental issues such as sustainability and recycling and to create innovative projects providing elements such as shade, water, and seating that increase the possibilities of use in open-air spaces.
Within the scope of the project, the temporary installation built in Istanbul Modern’s courtyard throughout the summer of 2013 will be used by museum visitors of all ages and will host museum activities addressing especially the young audience.
The designs proposed by the finalists will be assessed by the jury in February 2013. One of these proposals will be selected and launched in Istanbul Modern’s courtyard in June 2013, concurrently with the designs of theYoung Architects Program International at MoMA PS1 and MAXXI. In addition to their respective winners, allYoung Architects Program International locations will feature an exhibition showcasing the designs proposed by finalists of the 2013 summer program.
For the July/ August 2009 Digital Cities issue of AD, Patrik Schumacher of Zaha Hadid Architects espouses Parametricism as the dominant style of today’s avant-garde and demonstrates its potential for large scale urban schemes. In this article titled “Parametricism” he mentions Inanc Eray’s work – the Kartal Pendik Masterplan in Istanbul.
